Quality and Nice Côte d'Azur Airport

Quality is defined in the ISO 9000 (version 2000) standard as:
"the aptitude of the overall intrinsic characteristics of a product, a system or a process to satisfy the demands of clients and other concerned parties."

Getting away from this recent definition, the actual notion of quality has been around for a very long time (the Ancient Romans, for example, discussed quality and practised it... as had many other civilisations before them).

The word "quality", on the contrary, is more recent. The use of the term dates from after World War II : quality of work, quality of life and, above all, quality of service…

The airports on the Côte d'Azur joined the Nice Côte d'Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (link to CCI site) quality process in 1997. The EFQM reference frame (European Foundation of Quality Management) (link to EFQM) has been adopted along with, more recently, the latest version of the ISO 9000 standard (the 2000 version).

The EFQM model is generally recognised to be one of the best models in the world. It works on the basis of a points system (maximum 1,000 points).

The ISO 9001 standard is not as all-embracing as the EFQM model, but it is much better known around the globe. It is a certification standard.

Nice Côte d'Azur Airport and Cannes Airport respectively obtained certification ISO 9001 version year 2000 on October 12, 2001 for all their processes.
